Inspired by pandemic life, “You’re On Mute” is a new series of works by Emily Perry made in response to the 2021 and 2022 lockdowns. Developed for a single female performer, the works occupy gallery space at Seventeen Gallery and consist of household objects and large beanbags covered in fabric found on public transport. Interpreted by Roberta Bernadelli’s ‘You’re On Mute’ sees the artist explore the effects of lockdown on women, using phrases commonly heard on video calls to engage individual audience members. Elsewhere, the performer can be seen drying her hair or participating in performative yoga sessions.
