Who are the strongest characters in “Mob Psycho 100”?
Six years ago, Mob Psycho 100 introduced anime fans to a world of evil spirits and powerful espers – beings with telekinetic abilities who are considered “exorcists” capable of preventing these evil spirits from harming humanity.
Over the course of two seasons, the series, which focuses on protagonist Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, has given fans several powerful spheres to invest in. However, none have proven to be as strong as Mob. Nonetheless, there has been more than one whose feats of strength provided some thrilling moments in the series.
With the 3rd and final season of Mob Psycho 100 announced at the end of 2021, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the series, slated for April, to see how far their favorite characters have come since last season. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at 10 of the most powerful espers that have been featured in the series so far.
Dimple was once a powerful, upper-class evil spirit before Mob defeated him and drained him of his spiritual energy in the first season of Mob Psycho 100. Subsequently, Dimple became Mob’s sidekick for the rest of his time in the anime.
Now all Dimple can do is own other people for short periods of time. Admittedly, this power is quite tame compared to the abilities of the other characters in the series, but it at has come in handy when Mob and his friends needed an “inside man” to help turn situations in their favor.
Most fans already assumed that Mob’s younger brother, Ritsu, had telepathic abilities since the two characters are brothers, but for the first two seasons it seemed his powers were mostly dormant. Although he tried not to show it, Ritsu was quite resentful towards Mob because of it.
Eventually Ritsu’s powers finally surfaced and since then they have gradually grown stronger. As Mob’s younger brother, Ritsu has all of the same abilities, but since he discovered them late in life, he’s still much weaker than Mob. However, Ritsu can currently hold its own with mid-level espers and if Mob is any indication, Ritsu’s power could reach incredible levels in Season 3.
One of the few espers to stand up to Mob, Teruki Hanazawa is a high school student who challenges Mob to an esper battle so they can show off what they can do with their telekinetic abilities. While Mob ultimately won, there’s no denying that Hanazawa was able to keep up with Mob.
His esper abilities are strong enough to stand up to mortal members of the evil esper organization known as the Claw.
As a member of the Claw criminal organization, Toshiki Minegichi is part of the Ultimate 5, a group made up of the five most elite members of Claw who are considered exceptional when it comes to using psychic abilities.
Minegichi has the unique power to create and control plant life, which he extracts to produce vines and Venus fly traps that attack and immobilize his enemies. While the power doesn’t seem very dangerous, if used strategically, Minegichi’s ability can become quite dangerous against a less powerful esper.
As the son of Claw’s most powerful leader, Sho has been extensively trained to strengthen his psychic abilities, making him one of the strongest and most experienced espers in the series aside from Mob.
Sho has a range of impressive esper abilities, including the same level of telekinesis that Mob is famous for. He can also bend the light to his will and make himself invisible. Additionally, he can store energy, allowing him to gradually build up his power before releasing it all at once.
Another member of Claw’s Ultimate 5, Ryo Shimazaki is arguably one of the most powerful espers in Mob Psycho 100. The man is so strong that he was able to easily defeat Teruki and Ritsu at the same time in an esper fight.
Her greatest strength is the ability to teleport, a power that allows her to move just about anywhere at a rapid speed. Shimazaki can also use his “Mind’s Eye” to detect other espers before he is attacked. Using teleportation and the “Mind’s Eye” together, Shimazaki can also quickly attack multiple opponents at the same time while evading their counterattacks.
As a member of Claw’s Ultimate 5, Katsuyama Serizawa was considered the most human member, which prompted Mob to convince him to lead a less destructive life at the end of the summer of season two. Although he refrains from using his powers and leads a protected life inside, Serizawa has proven to be a threat with his psychokinesis abilities, which he channeled through his umbrella.
It might sound silly, but Serizawa was very adept at using his umbrella as both a weapon and a shield, making him a pretty dangerous opponent for Mob and his friends. While he might have looked out of place with his shy personality and unnecessary props, Serizawa’s skills with the umbrella were memorable enough to make Mary Poppins proud.
When fans first learn about Keiji Mogami, he’s an evil spirit. But before his death, Mogami was known as one of the most powerful mediums to ever live. Formerly known as “The Greatest Medium of the 20th Century,” Mogami had the ability to own his victims and create mental landscapes to trap them in surreal fantasies. He was also seen using the ability to absorb a person’s life force, which he used to wipe out many of the Claw Organization’s espers.
As the leader of the Claw criminal organization, Toichiro is arguably one of the most powerful espers in anime – and the first real threat to Mob’s powers. Just like his son, Suzuki could store psychic energy and release it at the same time. But it was his My hero university-like abilities that really made Suzuki a dangerous enemy for Mob.
In addition to his other abilities, Suzuki can also absorb the powers of his followers and even transfer his abilities to other people, including some who were not initially espers. In a sense, it is both All For One and One For All in Mob Psycho 100.
Suzuki can also send shock waves through his opponents, manipulate gravity, and create armored barriers to protect him from bullets. In short, he is almost invincible.
Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama
No one really knows the limits or even the full capabilities of Mob’s esper abilities. He has shown that he can emulate the majority of the abilities listed so far on the list, although he does not use all of them most of the time. However, he’s the only character to defeat all of the other characters on this list, which in itself says something.
So far, it stands to reason that Mob has the ability to detect and exorcise evil spirits. It is also understood that Mob’s telekinetic powers are exceptionally strong for someone his age, which means he has the potential to be the next greatest esper by the time he grows up like Toichiro Suzuki.
The only difference between Mob and the other characters is that he apparently has no limits on how much power he can get. Fans can usually see the extent of its force applied to a counter based on percentages, starting at 1 and ending at 100%. However, whenever an Esper challenges him to the point where his suppressed psychic energy rises to the surface, Mob’s counter will disappear into the “???%” category. When this happens, it is not clear what might happen next.
